Riding in the pasture

I am taking horseback riding lessons and today we moved from the round pen to the pasture. It was absolutely wonderful. I thought we were going to ride for 10 or 15 minutes but it was more like 45. At one point Spanky, the horse I was riding, wanted to go back to the barn, but his efforts were tharwted - hee, hee, hee.

Once we actually did head back to the barn, I had a bit of trouble getting him to do what I wanted, but once I relaxed and focused on my breathing I had more control. Trotting is still kicking my butt, but it seems that I'm doing it correctly. I have visions of Ken Berry in the opening credits in F Troop.

Next week I'll start taking lessons twice a week and can't wait! In the meantime, since I don't have a horse to ride here (Rupert being in Virginia), I'll keep reading Centered Riding by Sally Swift.
